It’s safe to say that due to global precautions being put into place to help stop the spread of COVID-19, your routine is probably a bit off. While finding yourself in a state of self-isolation, now is the perfect time to organize your life! Well, maybe just your house.
Here is a weekly plan that will help you to stay on track with organizing while balancing work, kids, and whatever this time of social distancing has brought you.
Daily
Tasks that will require your attention daily are:
- Clutter in the kitchen, living room, and bathrooms.
- Coats and shoes out of place.
- Laundry and dishes.
Take 15 minutes everyday to make sure everything is in its rightful place. You don’t have to clean these items right away, but simply put dirty clothes in the hamper, dishes in the dish washer, and tuck away any out of place items.
Monday: Kitchen and meal prepping
This is a good day to dedicate to everything kitchen related. This includes kitchen decluttering, tidying, organizing, and meal prepping. After putting away kitchen items in their rightful spot, you should have a clean counter that will be ready for a good wipe down and disinfecting.
When it comes to your meal prepping for the week, this is entirely up to you. You do not have to have three meals pre-prepared for everyday of the week, but at least a plan to help ease the stress of last-minute dinners.
Sit down and plan out your meals for the week for you and your family, and we mean write it down. A good tip is to make enough to have leftovers for when you’re feeling a bit lazy. Delegate and pre-package snacks for the kids so you can keep better track of the quarantine snacking.
Tuesday: Closet, laundry, and bedroom
Professional organizers say to work on the closet first. This is because closet clutter often overspills into the bedroom. After you sort through your closet, get rid of what you don’t need, and hang up that pile of laundry that’s been sitting on that one chair, it is time to tidy up your bedroom. And don’t forget to make your bed!
Wednesday: Entryway and mail
Use this mid-week period as a time to tackle the dreaded pile of mail that needs sorting. Any other paperwork that needs your attention should be addressed during this stage. After this, declutter your entryway. This is a great time to start a DIY project to better organize your entry way! Hang up some key hooks or create a designated space for shoes.
Thursday: Kitchen (again)
Yes, another day dedicated to your kitchen. The kitchen is easily the most used, and therefore messiest, place in your house. Especially if you have kids.
Repeat your Monday tasks and make sure to check in with your meal plan. Start a grocery list for the following week.
Friday: Living room and bedroom
It’s the end of the week, so your living room is bound to need a good decluttering. A good rule of thumb is to go around the area with an empty basket, putting everything that does not belong inside of it, and then sort that out.
Now is a good time to run a few loads of laundry, making sure to spruce up your bedroom and wash all the sheets!
Saturday and Sunday: Bathrooms
If we were to be writing about cleaning instead of organizing, saving the bathrooms for the weekend may not have been on our list. However, the weekend is the perfect time to declutter your bathrooms because you are sure to have many dirty towels to wash and bathroom trash to take out.
Clean off all of the counters and drawers. Depending on the size of your bathrooms, this should take no more than 30 minutes. You can now binge your favorite Netflix series while your laundry is being washed. Happy organizing!
